Mere-Orthodoxy: Animal Terrorism

Animal Terrorism

600 deer were released from the ranch that held them up by San Miguel. The AP write-up is reminiscent of terrorist attack reports: A group called the Animal Liberation Front claimed responsibility for the release in a note to the activist periodical Bite Back Magazine.
Could this be a deliberate attempt by MSM to associate animal rights activists such the ALF with criminal and terrorist activities? One can only wonder...... Update: Thanks to a comment by Wrathius, I did a bit more investigation. I found a few dated articles: this one from 2001 names the Earth Liberation Front as the chief domestic terrorist. This more helpful article from 2002 highlights the extreme nature of the ELF and ALF. Interestingly, one speaker (Nick Nicholds) bemoans the fact that they were unable to effectively communicate the seriousness of these extremist groups. I certainly fell in the category of the unreached. Until now, ecoterrorism had never occurred to me as a viable threat.

For much of the last twenty years, the ALF was listed by the FBI as the nation's top terrorist group (in terms of membership and criminal activity)... I haven't looked it up, but I think this may still be true, actually. =)
