I'm glad finally to join the conversation. Which brings me to my last point. There is nothing inherently narcissistic about blogging. When I was young, my neighbor friend had a pet cockatiel (sp?). Whenever you put it in front of the mirror, it began chirping and shifting its head and bobbing up and down. I think this blog is like a mirror for us. The cockatiel was narcissistic (or erotic), but the mirror itself isn't an instrument of narcissism. We're narcissistic (and erotic), so our blog will be an instrument of expressing our narcissism. Narcis (sp?), of course, saw himself outside of himself, and loved what he saw. We get to see ourselves outside of ourselves, and it makes us a little giddy, because we love ourselves. The reflexiveness that tells us we're doing a narcissistic thing is a sign of our immaturity and narcissism, not of our ability to recognize that we're being narcissistic, and thereby to circumvent a charge of narcissism. We seek to write on whatever comes to mind, and look what has come to mind! The sign of "being cool" is not to be taken in by anything, to be able to see through everything. It's to be so authentic that you see the campaign for authenticity to be itself inauthentic. If we continue to see this endeavor as narcissistic, we will be penultimately cool and perpetually confirmed in our narcissism. So the thing for us to do is to start writing on new topics. I actually want our dialogue blog to be read, and to be something worth reading. Accordingly, I motion to remove the adverb that begins with the letter 'n' from our subtitle, and tuck these last few posts quietly away in our archives. The success of this blog will be measured by how disparate are our posts today from our posts three months from now.
